Legend has it that on New Year's Day Buddha invited all animals. The years on the calendar would be named for twelve animal as they arrived to the meeting.The ox was the first to arrive, but the rat hidden on his back jumped ahead and reached the place first. Then came tiger (3rd), rabbit (4th), dragon (5th), snake (6th), horse (7th), goat (8th), monkey (9th), rooster (10th), dog (11th) and pig (12th). 2011 is the year of the rabbit.
