Tamaryokucha

Tamaryokucha
Due to a similarity in processing, Tamaryokucha is very close to the Chinese green teas: the tea leaves are pan-fired for a short time after they have been steamed to dehumidify. If the leaves are only pan-fired, this tea is called "Kama-iri-cha". You will find this production method in the prefectures Saga, Kumamoto or Miyazaki on the southern island of Kyushu.
Tamaryokucha has a yellowish cup and a slightly roasted flavour.
The rolled tea leaves are slightly curved and resemble the shape of ancient Japanese comma-shaped jewelleries, magatama. This is how the name Tamaryokucha came up which combines tama for jewel and ryokucha for green tea.
