The Japanese word hojiru means to roast. Thus Hojicha is a roasted tea with many stems that became dark in the process of firing at high temperatures.

Hojicha can be enjoyed either warm or chilled and its dark brown cup and intense, malty flavour make it a nice alternative to coffee. For it is low in caffeine Hojicha can be enjoyed in the evening and is also suitable for children.
